Kate Forrester's incredible Author Mural with The Graphic History co. for Hachette UK

Posted in: Design, Special projects

Kate Forrester was asked to work with the Graphic History Company  to create these stunning murals for Hachette UK. A year ago Hachette UK’s publishing houses moved into a new home all under one roof at Carmelite House. With many companies combining a long history in the publishing industry, the brief was ‘to bring this heritage in to the new space in a cohesive way, whilst also respecting the independent spirit of individual publishers within the group.’

Kate was commissioned to hand letter 4,000 of the authors names from the various publishers in a chronological and ‘river like’ way, to reflect the publisher’s new riverside location. The mural flows throughout the building all the way from the lower floor up to the roof. ‘Each name is colour coded to the publishing house who first published them, giving each company within the group its own identity within a cohesive whole. New authors names will be added every year, making the mural a living and growing homage to Hachette and its writers.’
