David Doyle

Since joining the Artworks in 2007 David has attracted a lot of attention, winning commissions for The Guardian, The Times, several national publications and publishers as well as international ones like La Vanguardia Dossier - the quarterly supplement for the lead newspaper in Barcelona, and Interni - the Russian edition of european design and architecture monthly.

Dave's illustrations are truly unique. He captures the atmosphere of the places he paints and often uses text to bring an extra dimension to his work, which is intriguing and often extremely humorous. His illustrations have a certain warmth and humility that draws you into the image / the scenes and the people and allows the work to be very diverse.

Dave studied at Bournemouth Arts Institute and went on to Bath Spa University to do a degree in Illustration. During the course he enjoyed screen-printing, reportage work and cartoons, and after his BA he completed an MA in Children's Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. David is inspired by Pop Art, or any art that celebrates the 'everyday and the ordinary'; Peter Blake, Warhol, Rauschenberg, Rosenquist and Ardizzone; American culture is a great source of inspiration too; as are Chris Ware, and Ralph Steadman for their dark and twisted humour.
