Heather Gatley

Heather Gatley graduated with a First in Illustration from the Arts Institute at Bournemouth in Summer 2006. After being spotted by Lucy at the New Blood exhibition she joined the Artworks through the Startworks programme and has been with the agency ever since.

Heather is a skilled draftsman and her observational drawings make for interesting reportage as well as images that are beautifully abstract. She focuses on mark - making and line quality, combining this with collage, and traditional and digital techniques, she approaches her subject matter with an individual outlook and a visually rich style.

She is interested in people, places, cultures and events, and often the mundane elements of her surroundings. Here are some images that she based around religion, those of you who are Londoners may be familiar with the gentleman below - a Liverpudlian preacher who was stationed at Oxford Circus Tube station and has now moved on to a new location in Piccadilly ..

Previous work has been largely within editorial and decorative contexts, representing parts of society through reportage; this gives a personal touch to what she documents, plus conceptual elements.

Heather has also worked on projects for interiors and external architecture as well as book jackets.
