James Majowski

James graduated in 2007 from the BA Illustration course at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth, studying under top illustrator Joel Lardner. He has since been living and working in the East End of London, he joined the Artworks through the Startworks programme.

His work to date highlights a diverse application of contexts for his image - making. It encompasses editorial, music and fashion subculture and concept-driven work, whilst being expansive in its outlook. James has a particular fascination with political issues and matters that adversely affect other people's lives .

His influences are primarily very contemporary ones; the creative approaches of Paul Willoughby, Alan Baker, Eduardo Recife, and even Jasper Goodall. As well as, more indirectly, the work of Michel Majerus, Peepshow Collective, Neasden Control Centre, Designers Republic and much of the moving image brought together by onedotzero.

James' s images place a strong emphasis on drawing, and typically incorporate antique papers, paints, colouring pencil and pens. His images tend to start life as collaged elements, before being hand-rendered and scanned for digital composition, allowing a practical flexibility.
