Chris Wormell

Chris Wormell's illustrations are timeless , beautiful and inspiring - unbelievably he is a self taught artist . Chris never went to Art college or had any formal training : "Which is probably why I hold the tools wrongly, " he explains - a fact that makes his obvious raw talent all the more enchanting.

Trying to consolidate Chris' illustration work is a difficult task. He works using two main methods, wood engraving and lino cut .

The combination of classic methods and the exceptional quality of craftsmanship yet often depicting modern subjects is what makes Chris ' work so unique. His illustrations transcend all areas of illustration and his work lends itself to a huge range of subject s from food packaging to billboards for Ad campaigns as well as animations for websites.

Chris is also a prolific children's book illustrator
. For these he works in two styles - watercolour and lino cut. Here are just a few of his books including " George and the Dragon " which has sold over 100,000 copies to date. His latest book 'The Big Ugly Monster and the Little Stone Rabbit' is soon to be shown in London having being adapted into a stage play for the Edinburgh Festival. Always inspired by the great illustrators of Victorian children's books, it was making up stories for his younger siblings growing up and reading to his own children later on that Chris became acutely aware of the requirements of a good storybook - illustrations. Another talent that was nature born , he thus began to write and illustrate his own children's books as well as to illustrate titles by some great authors.

Chris excels in every area of illustration and has become one of the finest illustrators in Britain today . Charmingly modest and his own worst critic he has been with The Artworks since the mid 1980's and continues to pave the way in his field and to be a true ambassador for the craft of illustration.
