Kate Forrester has indulged us in a behind-the-scenes update on her design process for Andrew Baker’s new book, From Bean to Bar: A Chocolate Lover’s Guide to Britain. From Bean to Bar is a celebration of artisan chocolate-making in Great Britain. It specifically focuses on celebrating people that are producing delicious chocolate from ethically sourced ingredients and aims to highlight some of the most exciting people in Britain’s burgeoning artisan food scene.
AA Publishing commissioned Kate to illustrate and design a cover that is rich, colourful and full of her signature, swirling hand-drawn lettering. Kate’s creative process shows her progressing from initial thumbnail sketches, to more accurately drawn representations of her cover designs, before professionally finishing her designs digitally. It is amazing to see the journey her initial rough ideas take before becoming a full cover. Using graphically simple illustrations with vivaciously popping colours, Kate has visually narrated the exciting story of chocolate on its bean-to-bar journey.
From Bean to Bar is published and available to buy in the UK from the 22nd of August.
