Lucy Davey's illustrated stories help raise awareness of Diabetes for Abbott Medical!

Lucy Davey has illustrated three storybooks for children, collaborating with US based health company Abbot and design agency Attention Global, as part of a campaign to raise awareness of Diabetes.

The books feature main character’s designed by Lucy; Billy, Riley and the soon to be revealed Marina, all learning to adjust to life with Diabetes;

“I hadn’t really worked on a character-led children’s book before so drawing the same figures in different poses and keeping them consistent was a new challenge for me. “

The final artworks had to remain consistent with the client’s brand guidelines, meaning that Lucy’s usual textures (normally a key feature) are absent. Lucy’s workaround of airbrushing and gradients keep the characters rounded and provide depth in the scenery.

The colour palettes throughout the books were informed by Lucy’s finished character designs, giving each a distinct personality just like Billy and Riley! “… I really enjoyed bringing the characters to life – hopefully something I’ll do more of in the future.” We hope so too!
