Daniel Long illustrates some interesting insects for an Usborne Snap Deck.

Daniel Long has illustrated a set of interesting insects for snap cards by Usborne. Working from a basic outline provided by the client, Daniel weaved some of his illustrative knowledge of the natural world into each of the cards, tweaking the compositions and poses of the insects to create a dynamic set;

“The main challenge was trying to recreate how iridescent some of the creatures are and also trying not to make any of them look too creepy for the kids.”

Layering his pencil roughs with vector shapes and texture, each insect is clearly distinct from the other while staying accurate to their particular species, making for an easy, exciting and fun game of snap, “… I enjoyed discovering some of these exotic animals which I’d never heard of!”
