Lucy Davey illustrates Scottish Walking Guides for Pocket Mountains

Posted in: Illustration, Nature, Publishing, Uncategorised

Lucy Davey has illustrated 3 walking guide covers for the islands of Scotland for Pocket Mountains written by Peter Edwards. We caught up with Lucy for a closer look at the project.

What was your process for creating the images?

I’ve worked with Robbie Porteous from Pocket Mountains on a few projects now, and there’s another book in the works. For these he gave me an idea of which landmarks or characteristics of the islands he’d like me to show but he’s always open to my ideas which is great. I took inspiration from the iconic landscapes of Brian Cook.

Which illustration is your favourite and why?

The Uist cover is my favourite  – I always enjoy depicting water in my illustrations and I particularly like the colour combinations in this one.

What’s your dream walking holiday?

I’m looking forward to visiting Skye this summer, but sadly won’t make it as far as the Outer Hebrides to visit any of the locations from these books. I would love to see the White-tailed eagles on Harris.
