This year, the Association of Professional Illustrators of the Basque Country celebrates its 20th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Jesús Sotés has revived his explosive mural originally commissioned to adorn the Association’s headquarters.
Originally created in 2018, the work has been shown under the title “Sometimes things are not what they seem” in a collective exhibition along with Jesús’s sketchbook.
Explaining how the work is deeply personal, Jesús said “drawing from freedom allows me to explore my inner world unconsciously and spontaneously. It is an activity that makes me feel fulfilled and that, surprisingly, sometimes reveals to me and helps me transfer situations, conflicts or aspects of my personality that I didn’t even know to a conscious level.”
