Mary Woodin
Mary Woodin lives in an old farmhouse in Suffolk with her husband and 3 children. Mary studied textile design at Manchester Metropolitan University, and later as a ceramic designer at the Royal College of Art. She has worked in all areas of surface pattern design. One of her first major commissions was ceramic mural designs for London Underground’s South Kensington station.
Mary observes natural objects in the most stunning way capturing the beauty in them and literally making them into works of art and has been in constant demand with design groups in the UK and internationally, for all forms of packaging and stationery projects.
Whilst living in London, a passionate gardener, Mary was given her dream assignment, from Running Press in Philadelphia, the opportunity to record a full year in her garden, season by season, published as The Painted Garden: A Year in Words and Watercolors. A recent book was a kind of sequel to the Painted Garden: “The Painted Garden Cookbook”. This time Mary has not only illustrated it but has written the recipes, which are all inspired by her garden in Suffolk.
A selection of the clients Mary has worked with over the years includes: Perseus Running Press, David & Charles, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Wedgwood, The National Trust, Galison, Elixir Design, CA USA, Educational Insights Inc, APJ Japan
