Rachael Saunders
Rachael Saunders is an illustrator hailing from Hampshire, UK. Hugely inspired by mid-century design and print methods, Rachael’s work utilises texture and simplicity with structure and character. With a nod to the Provensen’s, her work has a warm nostalgia feeling fused with a contemporary style.
Her process always begins with a pencil. Working within a sketchbook, she draws out all of her ideas (good and bad!) before taking the best into Photoshop. Flat layers of coloured texture are then used to build up the image, a digital process mimicking the traditional screen-printing methods of the 50’s and 60’s picture books and advertising campaigns that inspire her.
Since graduating from Falmouth University in 2014, Rachael has gained a huge breadth of experience working within the design industry. With work spanning the worlds of children’s literature, animation, editorial and packaging, she has learnt to become flexible in order to meet a client’s brief.
She has technical skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects and experience working alongside teams of creatives to collaboratively bring projects to life; creating everything from storyboards to final artwork ready for animation.
When she is not drawing, Rachael can be found tending to her garden or hitting an ace while playing tennis at her local club.
