Chris Wormell documents his process for The Subtle Knife

Chris Wormell is busy working away on the new illustrated editions of Phillip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy, with “The Northern Lights” released in November. Chris has been giving eager fans a glimpse into his illustration process for the second book “The Subtle Knife”, showing off sketches and inked blocks of some of the iconic scenes.

The sketches revealed so far feature the characters in a variety of dynamic and dramatic scenes, drawn in energetic pencils. Once approved, Chris will transfer the drawings onto wooden blocks, carve them and then print the final illustrations in his inimitable style.
