Mary Woodin provides a peak into her ongoing nature journal.

Mary Woodin has been taking advantage of the bare, wintry hedges that surround her garden to spot abandoned bird’s nests, painting these watercolours as part of a personal ongoing nature journal which beautifully records the unfolding pattern of the seasons;

“I have lived in the country for nearly twenty years. Over that time, while tending our wilful garden, I’ve become increasingly aware, that the more I down tools and properly look, the more nature has to reveal. Take a bird’s nest for example, every species of bird has its own unique architectural vernacular and choice of materials. The chaffinch favours moss and lichen, the wood pigeon simply twigs, while the blackbird has lined hers with a carefully spun lining of my neighbour’s pony hair.”
Mary achieves a stunning level of detail in her watercolours. They have a timeless and enduring resonance and are a perfect choice for natural history publications.
