Kate Forrester’s latest project, a book detailing 200 cocktail recipes from across the globe, lets us taste the world without leaving our home. With her signature lettering used to elegant effect, we caught up with her to learn more about the work.
Let’s start off with the most important question of all – what’s your favourite cocktail and why?
I love a Pisco Sour. My sister went to Peru a couple of years ago and bought me back a bottle of Pisco (which is long gone obviously.) The book has a Chilean variation which I’d like to try.
What’s the book about and who commissioned it?
The book was commissioned by Quadrille which is part of Hardie Grant. It’s a collection of cocktails from around the world, compiled by continent. It also features beautiful photographs by Matt Russell.
How did you approach the brief, any inspirations?
Originally the brief was to have the cover 100% typographic so the lettering was designed to fill the whole cover – see previous versions. But to tie in the stunning photography, we decided to overlay it on a cocktail.
Which cocktail are you inspired to make now?
I like the sound of a Lonkero which is a Finnish gin and grapefruit cocktail – sounds very sharp and refreshing!
