Serene Ceramics: The Endless Talents of Debbie Powell

Highlighting the importance of experimentation and development in creative work, Debbie Powell has expanded her practice into tile making. Below, she explains a bit more about her process and how it’s developed.

The tiles are a blank canvas and have given me the freedom of exploring all of the things I love, my favourite foods, my children, nature, shape & patterns, space and ancient history. I have found this process to be very liberating!

Do you think you’ll continue exploring ceramics? Do you have you sights set on any other objects if so?

I would love to keep experimenting with ceramics, my love of pottery has always been present as an illustrator and has seen me dabbling in and out making various bits over the years. Moving forward I will continue making tiles as I love the process but I would also like to try hand building homeware pieces such as bowls and vases which I can either hand draw onto or make my papercuts for.
