Give us a brief rundown of the project
I was commissioned by Hachette Children’s Group to work on this book project that focused on telling the differences between animals that commonly are mistaken for one another.
How did you create the artwork?
I started by researching each animal and their unique features which were given in the brief. I then went on to draw sketches for each spread to confirm I had the composition right and their differences correctly drawn. I did have to make sure that I wasn’t over-complicating the scenes in regards to their habitats, as the animals were the key feature on each page. I also had to be very careful that all the animals were in their correct habitats and were accurately drawn as some of their differences are hard to spot.
What did you enjoy most about the project? • Which is your favourite illustration and why?
I really enjoyed illustrating this book and loved the concept behind it! I think my favourite illustration is the cover because it combines all the animals together and gives you a sneak peek of what is to come inside. I also learnt a lot on this projects as I also didn’t know the differences between a lot of these creatures, You’ll never mix up a leopard and a jaguar again!
