LUCY VISITS HEATHER GATLEY IN BERLIN

Posted in: Artists, Special projects

I was in Berlin for a long weekend recently and it was a perfect opportunity to visit Heather, see her apartment and have a good catch up with her over a very British cup of tea and delicious home-baked banana bread.   Her studio is in one corner of the stunning double aspect sitting room in the spacious apartment she shares with her flatmate, and after taking a few photos (see below) and looking at her latest work on her Mac, we headed out into the local area, Friedrichshain, for a wander.  It is a really nice part of Berlin with a little square nearby and a very relaxed feel.  We headed down to the river and through a disused railway station to the gorgeous Hotel Michelberger for lunch in its very unpretentious restaurant (see photos). Over seasonal asparagus soup and risotto, we talked about Berlin, illustration, The Artworks, Mendola and everything in between. It was lovely to spend a few hours together and it was great to see that Heather is so happy and creative in her adopted home!
