Katie Ponder has been busy working away with creative agency Baxter & Bailey on a series of designs for Royal Mail’s Christmas 2022 Stamps. Each image illustrates an element of the Nativity story, told in Katie’s beautifully sophisticated graphic style and utilising jewel tones.

Beginning back in Spring 2021, Katie worked closely with art director Rory at Baxter & Bailey, carefully fine-tuning each design throughout the course of the year. Just before Christmas, they found out the designs had been chosen to be the 2022 Christmas stamp set;

It was very much a collaboration between the two of us. It was wonderful working with Rory because I completely trusted his vision and direction and I was over the moon with the final outcome of the project. I felt he really knew how to draw out the best aspects of my work and it was such a pleasure to work in this collaborative way.

The pair were constantly considering the scale of the final artworks, making sure that every detail was clear. Creating the final illustrations in Photoshop, each image employs the perfect amount of texture and colour that almost glows on the surface!

The portentous timing of this project hasn’t been lost on Katie, with each design needing to be approved by none other than the late Queen Elizabeth II, “I feel incredibly proud to know that Her Majesty saw the designs.”

Even before I knew my designs were going to be used I was delighted just to be considered. There is something very magical about the Christmas stamps every year, and I feel over the moon to think my design will play a part in people’s Christmas post and festivities this year.
