Kate Forrester’s Xmas Radio Times cover comes to life!

Kate Forrester was commissioned to design this years iconic Christmas cover for the Radio Times, which they’ve turned into an incredible animation as well!

While normally linking the cover to the Christmas TV schedule, the art directors wanted to take a more explicitly festive approach this year, basing the illustration around a central icon like a bauble, snow globe or other Christmas image.

We all liked the turkey rough from the first round – below – but it was decided that that would be unappealing to vegetarians! The team chose the wreath icon and once that was decided, the rest was smooth sailing.

As well as the cover, Kate was asked to illustrate a range of imagery and patterns for the magazine interior and hand written titles for inside.

Creating the images by hand before colouring and arranging them in Photoshop, Kate’s knowledge of the animation process was especially handy for the in house team at RT, creating a range of key frames for the robin ready to animate.
