Rachael Saunders is clearly a doer. Not only has she been using her time in lockdown to create draw along tutorials based on her illustrations, but she has also spent the time expanding her skillset; learning how to animate and bring her illustrations to life.
Recognising that animation is becoming more desirable in the creative industry, Rachael was reluctant to “look back at this time as a negative pause in my career, I want to utilise it, by learning a new skill that can enrich my work.” Setting herself the challenge of learning to create “simple” animations, Rachael looked to online classes and tutorials to learn the basics, and has since started a series of self-initiated briefs.
“It is slow progress, but I am really enjoying the process. I don’t have any expectations other than to have some fun!”
Inspired by artists and animators such as Milt Kahl, Eyvind Earle and Abbey Lossing, Rachael says that her ultimate goal would be to become proficient enough in creating animation to take on commissions! Adding another string to her illustrative bow.
