Based in a leafy suburb of Bristol, Dawn Cooper works from a friendly, shared studio in Montpelier. Dawn graduated from Bath School of Art & Design with a first class degree in Graphic Communication in 2011, and she has rarely set down her pens and paper since! Her work includes non-fiction children’s books, book covers, maps and packaging.
Dawn finds great inspiration from the natural world, traditional botanical drawings, animals, works of fiction and illustrated quotations. Her creative process involves drawing everything by hand, before assembling her drawings on screen to make multi-layered illustrations with digital colour and texture. Dawn’s densely layered and patterned illustrations are often likened to traditional print-making and mark-making techniques.
In the rare moments when she’s not drawing, Dawn likes nothing more than a long, rewarding walk with her camera or a lengthy perusal of her favourite bookshops.
